November Buzz from the Hive

This “Buzz from the Hive” is all about giving thanks!  Mrs. Smith’s class would like to thank our families from the bottom of our hearts. Thank you for believing in us. It’s because of you we can reach all of our goals, dream as big as the sky, and “bee” anything we want to “bee”.  In class we have discussed reasons why we are thankful for each other and how each  person in our class makes our classroom family unique and special. We’ve had some really exciting things happen recently. First, our class had so much fun at Red Walk! We learned a lot about being safe and being drug free and living a healthy life. It was so cool learning how to do the Thriller Dance with Mrs. Smith. In addition to that, Mrs. Smith says we have become outstanding writers. We have elaborated our writing pieces with lots of details. We have also learned to stay organize so our writing flows. We really are “write” on track! Also, we have been really focusing on our Reading Comprehension Strategies. It is getting easier and easier because of all of our practicing. Lastly, we have been switching classes for Math. We really like learning from different teachers. We have been learning about rounding numbers, estimating, strategies for adding and subtracting numbers in the thousands and hundred thousands, and a little bit about elapsed time and fractions! We have become Math Masters with our 3 times tables and now we are moving on to 4’s!

This month’s top Bees to recognize are Colin and Tegan! Let’s see what all the buzz is about!

Buzz from the Hive October

This “Buzz from the Hive” is all about “fall-tastic fun!”. Mrs. Smith transformed our  classroom into a fabulous, fall,  fantasy. Some of us have never seen leaves change  colors or pumpkins in a pumpkin patch. But, in Mrs. Smith’s room, we can smell pumpkin spice and apple  cider and we can almost feel the crisp fall air in the hot Florida heat. We have been busy bees working on lots of new things! Mrs. Smith taught us about adding details into our writing. We also have been doing our favorite Quick Write activity. We love sharing our writing with our class.  Also, in Math, we learned some new strategies for adding and subtracting numbers. Our class has also learned how to organize and display data by using graphs. Many of us have become math masters with our 2 x’s facts. We can’t wait to learn our 3 x’s facts.  Lastly, did you know our class has earned over 150  bonus points in Scholastic Orders so far?!? Our class loves reading books!  Mrs. Smith says she is going to use these points to buy us books to read and keep at home! Many of us have even read over 20 books for far and earned Reading Counts points!

School Time

School is here again,
Summer's at an end.
See me work and play,
On an Autumn day.

It's always sad to see summer go. It's fun to spend your days splashing in the pool and playing with your friends. Staying up later at night and waking up later in the morning is always nice during your summer days. Camps are fun too! You get to make new friends and explore outside. Many of you spent your summer going on adventures and vacations. I hope you found time to go on an adventure inside a book or write about an adventure you took!

I must say, I am very excited that the school year is here! While I know my students were counting down the days of summer and crying out with sadness, I was counting down the days until school starts again and I was shouting with joy! I always love meeting my new students. I think about who they may be, and what they may look like, and I wonder about all of the fun things we will do when school starts.

I can't wait to buzz into a great year with all of my new busy bees!
